New MSc in Geochemistry provides excellent foundations for an industry career or further study
Birkbeck is the only university to offer this new part-time postgraduate course in advanced geochemistry via evening study and distance learning.
The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences has launched a new 2 year part-time programme in advanced geochemistry starting in October 2015. Birkbeck is the only university to offer this subject in depth via evening study and distance learning.
Geochemistry is the study of the world around us using chemical tools and principles and the course combines training in geochemical theory alongside field and laboratory approaches. Subjects covered by the course include: earth surface chemistry, pollution, resource chemistry and magmatic processes.
One of our newly promoted professors, Karen Hudson-Edwards, has been a key figure in developing the structure and approach of this new programme. She commented: "The new MSc gives students an opportunity to learn the theory and practice of low- and high-temperature geochemistry, and to undertake a geochemical research project of their own chosing. This is the first MSc in Geochemistry to be offered by either face-to-face or distance learning, and we are excited to be able to offer the degree to students globally."
You can find out more about the programme, with details of entry requirements, modules covered, assessment and fees and funding on the prospectus page.
