Poetic Tweets for National Poetry Day

Liane Strauss and Sophie Robinson, lecturers on the Creative Writing BA, write 'po-e-tweets' to mark National Poetry Day.

Liane Strauss and Sophie Robinson, who lecture on the Creative Writing  BA at Birkbeck, University of London, were among six poets who wrote ‘po-e-tweets’ (a poem in 140 characters) to celebrate National Poetry Day (October 6) for an article in Stylist magazine.

These were published alongside an interview with poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy. She spoke about the practical aspects of writing poetry and being successful as a poet, as well as the less definable, but critical, ‘inspiration’. In Duffy’s view ‘poetry is able to hold so much in so small a space’ which explains why, in the right hands and at the right moments, tweets can be poetic.
