Politics of Population, Migration and Ecology

Department launches new MSc programme

The Department has launched a new MSc in the Politics of Population, Migration and Ecology, currently receiving applications for 2014/2015 start.

Population and demography have become important political issues. World population is growing fast: having trebled in approximately a century, the UN projects an increase from today's 7 billion to around 11 billion by the end of the twenty-first century. Where is this growth occurring and what are its implications for developing and developed countries? What are the consequences for the environment as people globally strive for great affluence and higher consumption? What are the implications for economic growth or military success as some populations get older?

Overall, the programme aims to provide students with a broad, stimulating framework for exploring a fascinating and fast-evolving field, plus a package of conceptual and technical resources that will help them to consider some of the most urgent and challenging changes that are occurring on the planet today.
