A new UK Government £10,000 loan scheme for postgraduates is available for courses beginning this autumn.
A new UK Government £10,000 loan scheme for postgraduates is available for courses beginning this autumn.
Applicants to Birkbeck, University of London, from the UK and EU, may be eligible for loans of up to £10,000 for taught and research Master’s courses in all subjects.
Aimed at helping the UK meet an increasing demand for highly skilled workers, the loans can be used to gain MA, MSc, MRes, MPhil, LLM and other postgraduate degrees and are paid directly to you to put towards fees, maintenance costs or other costs - it’s entirely up to you how you use the loan.
The new loans are not means-tested (they are not linked to household earnings, savings or investments) and are available for new courses from 2016/17 for those who have not previously completed a Master’s.
The Student Loans Company will administer the scheme, and applications will open in the spring, although a date has not yet been announced. Repayments on the loans will be payable from 2019 at 6% of annual income over £21,000.
In the meantime, get started on your postgraduate journey by finding the right course at Birkbeck, where you can study in the evening and work in the day.
The Department of Applied Linguistics and Communication offers the following courses which can be funded with the new Part-Time Postgraduate Loans:
- MA Applied Linguistics
- MA Intercultural Communication for Business and Professions
- MA Language Teaching
- MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
