The Academia Europaea is a European non-governmental organisation which aims to promote a wider appreciation of the value of European scholarship and to encourage interdisciplinary and international research in all areas of learning. Invitations for membership are made only after peer group nomination, scrutiny and confirmation as to the scholarship and eminence of the individual in their chosen field. Election is confirmed by the Council of the Academia. Members are drawn from across the whole European continent, not only western Europe. Current membership includes fifty-two Nobel Laureates.
Professor Lynda Nead teaches on the MA History of Art and MA History of Art with Photography and supervises PhD students. In 2013 she was awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for a project entitled ‘The Tiger in the Smoke: British Visual Culture 1945-60’.
