One of our students, Lena Stadlen, has been awarded the Gilchrist and Robert Davis prize – given each year for meritorious work in assessments for University of London Certificates and Diplomas. Lena summarised her experience at Birkbeck with the following statement:

‘Studying the World Arts and Artefacts course has been very exciting. The enthusiasm and dedication of the tutors has opened my eyes to the myriad cultures of the world, and as an artist, the knowledge I have accrued during the course has been hugely influential on my work. Thank you Birkbeck.’

Dr. Ben Burt, who teaches on the World Art and Artefacts programme, has also been recognised for Distinguished Teaching and Scholarship at an awards ceremony at the end of February. Dr Burt has recently had his book World Art: An introduction to the arts in artefacts published by Bloomsbury.
