Tiffany Boyle, PhD candidate in the Department of History of Art, has recently visited the Olympic Studies Centre in Switzerland as part of her research.

Tiffany's AHRC RTSG-funded trip to the Olympic Studies Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland, allowed her to undertake archival research in their holdings dating as far back as 1896. She was able to make extensive use of the OSC's library and also met with staff from the Olympic Museum's Collections department. Her time in the archives helped her to further understand the vast changes in the visual culture of gymnastics and collect historical images of the sport not readily available by other means, while also providing scope for loaning items for future curatorial outcomes of her research.

Tiffany's PhD is entitled 'These Gymnasts Do Not Simply Perform Gymnastics - Susan Sontag's 'Fascinating Fascism' and The (In)visibility of Whiteness in Visual Representations of Olympic Gymnastics' and is being supervised by Professor Lynda Nead.
