The School of Law warmly extends its congratulations to the postgraduate graduates of Spring 2016.

The sun was out on the morning of the 20th April 2016 as the School of Law’s graduating postgraduate students took to the stage to pick up their degree awards.

The ceremony opened with a speech from Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck, who said that the flexible model of study at Birkbeck is being increasingly recognised as the best mode of study.

Most postgraduate students in the School of Law work at the same time as studying towards their masters, either full or part-time. Students hail from a range of backgrounds, including lawyers, public sector workers, non-governmental organisations, and much more. Today was a celebration of their dedication and hard work, and the teachers and family who supported them.

Students were personally awarded their degrees by Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck, as well as receiving warm congratulations from Baroness Joan Bakewell, President of the College.

The ceremony was held in the University of London’s Senate House in the heart of Bloomsbury.

Commenting on this spring’s graduation ceremonies, Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck, said:

‘Each of our students graduating this spring has achieved something very special: acquiring a postgraduate qualification by studying in the evening, as well as balancing their daytime commitments, typically work and often family.

‘The atmosphere at graduation reflects the special bond between students, who know what a fulfilling challenge studying at Birkbeck can be; and staff, who have enabled students to develop and grow over the course of their studies.

‘It is especially fitting – as a constituent college of the University of London – that our graduation ceremony this month will return to Senate House, which is a suitably impressive venue to celebrate the achievement of all our students.’
