Sundstrom Scholarships for 2017/18 Entry

Two Home/EU scholarships for MSc programmes are available in the Department of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics.

The Department has received a generous donation from former student, Geraldine Sundstrom, which has made it possible to offer two Home/EU scholarships for MSc programmes in the Department of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics.

About the Scholarship

Geraldine Sundstrom is a managing director and portfolio manager at the investment management firm PIMCO. She studied for her MSc in Finance at Birkbeck and now generously gives back to the College. The Sundstrom Scholarship for Postgraduate Taught Study was set up within the Department, to ensure that the most talented mathematicians can study at Birkbeck, regardless of their financial situation, as well as to support underrepresented groups within this area.

The scholarships will cover up to the value of the full-time Home/EU fee for an MSc within the Department only.  Applications for part-time study will be considered, at an appropriate pro-rata rate.

Scholarships will be awarded in the summer 2017, to be taken up in the 2017-18 academic year and will be tenable for 1 – 2 years depending on mode of study and subject to the holder making satisfactory progression as assessed through the College’s formal assessment procedures.

Who is eligible?

We welcome applications from candidates with a 1st of 2.1 degree in a relevant discipline who have strong potential for achievement at postgraduate level.

The scholarships are open to NEW home/EU and international students who are applying for a taught postgraduate Masters in the Department of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics. Applications from women are encouraged.

How to apply

Candidates will only be considered once they have been offered a place on a Master’s degree programme in the department: we have a wide range of programmes in economics, finance, mathematics and statistics.  To find out more about our MSc Programmes, please visit our website.
