The 'Inside Lieder' Salon

Last year, Birkbeck put on an exciting and varied event about Lieder, hosted by German singer Norbert Meyn at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Knightsbridge.

Norbert’s guests included the American pianist Eugene Asti, regular recital partner of artists such as Sarah Connolly and Sir Whillard White, and Richard Stokes, Visiting Professor of Lieder at the Royal Academy of Music and co-author of the popular Book of Lieder.

The event finished with a Schubertiade, including well known and lesser known songs by the great Austrian composer. The renowned clarinettist Jane Booth also played some nineteenth-century arrangements of Schubert songs for clarinet and piano,

Birkbeck Film and Media students put together a short film about the event with an interview with Meyn and you can watch the film online here.
