Wellcome Collection Talk: The Mummy's Curse

Roger Luckhurst, Professor in Modern and Contemporary Literature, will be discussing The Mummy's Curse at The Wellcome Collection in February as part of a new series of talks, each based on a single object.

Roger Luckhurst, Professor in Modern and Contemporary Literature, recently took part in a new series of talks at the Wellcome Collection, each based on a single object.

Professor Luckhurst explored the supernatural beliefs about Egyptian artefacts, showing how myth, mystery and rumour fuelled this obsession in Victorian Britain and the meaningful political and historical whispers that these stories hold.

This talk was part of a new series of events,’ The Thing Is...’, where speakers are brought in to discuss a single object in the Wellcome Collection.

Roger’s book The Mummy’s Curse: The True Story of a Dark Fantasy was published by Oxford University Press last October (2012). He teaches on the BA English and MA Modern and Contemporary Literature programmes.
