Today is World Refugee Day, which was launched by the UN in 2000 to raise awareness of refugees and their plight across the globe.
In 1945, by the time the occupiers moved into their zones of Germany, the continent was already in the grip of one of the biggest population movements of the century. Dr Jessica Reinisch considers the place of refugees as an important sub-plot in the story of the Allied occupation on the Birkbeck Research Blog.
