Highlights
I am an art and design historian and my research focuses on issues of nationalism, international exchange and modern identities in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. My work ranges over art, architecture and design and my areas of interest cover art journals, new art and changing cultures of display around 1900.
I am currently working on a project exploring the impact of Chinese art objects on the British art world from 1870-1920. Forthcoming publications include "Chinese art and British art history 1870-1920" in a sepcial issue of TaHiTi, (The Journal of the Society for Art History in Finland)

I have worked as a lecture at Birkbeck, University of London, the Courtauld Institute of Art, Oxford University and the V&A. My teaching and writing revolves around my research and interest in art and design as vehicles for identity and ideals.
