Biography
John is an Associate Lecturer in Film and Media and teaches with Hilary Smith on both the Approaches to Cinema and the Cinema Today modules. Prior to these modules, John taught several modules with Helen de Witt including Gender and Sexuality in the Cinema, Introduction to Film Studies as well as many short course on specialist subjects ranging from The Youth Movie and British Exploitation Cinema of the 70s to Transgressive Sexualities and Madonna. He received a Distinguished Sessional Lecturer Award in 2011.
John obtained a BA (Hons) in French and German from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and has a Diploma with Merit in Film Studies from Birkbeck College, University of London.
Following university John toiled in the world of publishing and book distribution, but now works for one of the major US media corporations in London, where he specialises in post production (localisation/dubbing) for international markets; this means that he brings a strong awareness of the commercial realities of the industry to the teaching of any courses.
