    Biography

Julie Gore joined the Department of Organizational Psychology in September 2021 as Professor of Organizational Psychology.  As founding  Director she developed the Professional Doctorate in Evidence Based HRM.  Julie is now a Director of the Professional Doctorates' in Occupational Psychology and Evidence Based HRM (Thesis Stage).  Prior to this Julie held senior positions as Reader in Organizational Psychology, a founding Director of the Centre for Qualitative Research at the University of Bath; Associate Professor in Organizational Behaviour & Director of the Doctorate in Business Administration at the Business School, University of Surrey; Lecturer in Management at Oxford Brookes University.

A Chartered Psychologist, Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and member of the Occupational and Organizational Psychology Division. Her research focus is on Naturalistic Decision Making (NDM) and expertise; eliciting and documenting cognitive expertise in ill-defined, uncertain organisational contexts aiming to explain and accurately capture how people take decisions in their professional work.  Findings from her research suggest how this often expert/tacit knowledge can be effectively used to improve the quality of decision making for individuals and organisations. Her work has captured the cognitive decision making processes of professionals in management, health, engineering, the military, day trading, and aviation. Her work has also explored the psychology of the decision making associated with executive reward, resulting in new theoretical (international, award winning) insights in Behavioural Agency Theory. Julie's work has been funded by a range of organisations, the ESRC, EPSRC, Dstl and UK Government.

Julie is also a nominated ESRC Peer-Review College Member & Fellow of the British Academy of Management's Peer Review College. She is a former elected Member of Council for the British Academy of Management & editorial board member of Frontiers in Organizational Psychology.  Julie currently serves as a member of the editorial boards of the British Journal of Management,  and is Editor of the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology.
