Birkbeck flexible master's UK
Experience the best of Birkbeck teaching wherever you are based in the UK. The heart of Birkbeck teaching is in the classroom, on campus, but our virtual classrooms now give you the means to learn, study, network and get support as part of a vibrant learning community no matter where you are.
Whether you're in London, but working more from home and less often in the office, or outside London, this way of studying is designed to suit your new circumstances.
The flexible master's UK courses which make up the on campus/at home/at work approach have the following features:
- A choice to study with us online, on campus or a combination of the two, meaning you design a course that fits around you. Every course provides an online route, which would allow you to complete it by studying entirely remotely. Alternatively, you may choose to study some modules online and other modules on campus based on the course timetable, your other commitments and when you need or want to be on site in Bloomsbury.
- Live and interactive online or on-campus teaching, underpinning rich academic discussion led by our world-class teaching staff with excellent interaction and collaboration with your peers.
- Our high-quality virtual learning environment, Moodle, with all the key master’s degree information and learning materials, provides you with everything you’ll need to prepare effectively for your classes and assessments, as well as independent study
- A range of on campus and online student services to support you during your academic journey. These include study skills, student advice, careers services and disability, mental health, and counselling support.
- Access to a personal tutor and Turnitin Draft Coach, our online academic support service, which is available 24/7 and provides you with feedback on your academic writing within 24 hours.
- Assessments that can be taken online and remotely.
- Membership of a diverse, committed and ambitious Birkbeck learning community.
Visa and Funding Requirements
If you are an international student who needs a Student visa to study in the UK, you must meet certain minimum in-person attendance requirements. You will be required to primarily study on campus and so will only be able to apply for the on-campus study mode.
Which study option suits you?
- On campus: Your classes will be held in the heart of Bloomsbury where you'll join fellow students and enjoy on-campus teaching. These will be supplemented by high-quality online material supporting the classroom experience. Find out more about studying on campus.
- Online: All your classes will be held remotely, giving you more flexibility for other commitments.
- Flexible approach: If the module/course timetable supports this approach, you'll be able to select the modules you want to study either on campus or online.
Whichever study option you choose, they're all supplemented by high-quality online material in Moodle, our online learning environment, designed to support the classroom experience.
