Professional body accreditations

Professional bodies provide opportunities for career development and further training. Accreditation demonstrates that your course meets rigorous industry standards and that you are committed to your chosen career path. In some professions, such as accounting, accreditation is also essential to practice.

The Birkbeck Business School is accredited by the Small Business Charter, a mark of excellence in supporting small businesses, student entrepreneurship and engagement in the local economy.

Accounting and finance

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

  • BSc Accounting
  • BSc Accounting and Finance
  • Depending on the specific modules chosen, graduates from the above programmes can be exempt from five of the nine Fundamental level examinations for the ACCA Qualification.

CFA Institute

  • Our MSc Management and Finance integrates at least 70% of the CFA Programme Candidate Body of Knowledge. This Master's programme helps students gain a 'Chartered Financial Analyst' title, which is the most respected investment professional qualification worldwide. The CFA institute will offer up to three Birkbeck students recognition-based scholarships per fiscal year, which will reduce the costs of enrolling to the CFA programme.

CFA Society of the UK

  • Our BSc Accounting and Finance is recognised by the CFA to be an IMC advantage programme, which prepares students for the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) qualification. The IMC is the industry's benchmark entry-level qualification and is approved by the Financial Conduct Authority. This route provides a globally-recognised career progression path for our students to become investment professionals. Through participation in the programme, Birkbeck is eligible to receive a limited number of IMC scholarships from the CFA Society of the UK every year.

Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA)

  • BSc Accounting
  • BSc Accounting and Finance
  • Graduates on the above programmes that wish to take the CIMA Chartered Management Accounting Qualification upon graduation will automatically receive a significant number of exemptions.
  • Depending on the specific modules chosen, graduates can be exempt from all five of the examinations required for the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting and from three of the nine examinations required for the Chartered Management Accountant Qualification.
