Green spaces around campus

Between Birkbeck's campus buildings, you'll find open green spaces and gardens that come to life during the warmer months. You can find a quiet reading spot underneath overhanging trees or have a picnic among wildflowers. Here's just some of the green spaces in our London neighbourhood.

GORDON SQUARE

Gordon Square is a much-loved urban park in the centre of academic London. Birkbeck students come here to read, have a break between lectures, or even do an occasional informal outdoor seminar. View Gordon Square on map.

TORRINGTON SQUARE

Located in front of Birkbeck's main entrance, this green space is on your doorstep. On Thursday afternoons, street food stalls fill the square as part of Bloomsbury Farmers' Market. View Torrington Square on map.

RUSSELL SQUARE

This green space is a five-minute walk from most of Birkbeck's campus buildings, has two cafes and is surrounded by benches under tall trees. View Russell Square on map.

REGENT'S PARK

With 5,000 varieties of tree, areas of wild meadow and historic grasslands, wildlife thrives in Regent's Park, and it is only a 20-minute walk from Birkbeck's main building. View Regent's Park on map.

CANALSIDE GREEN STEPS, KING'S CROSS

Usually open April until October, these giant outdoor steps in the Coal Drops Yard area of King's Cross that overlook Regent's canal are popular with both students and Londoners who take their own picnic and drinks. They're a 20-minute walk from Birkbeck. View Canalside Green Steps on map.
