For the 2024/25 academic year, we will have Turnitin Draft Coach available for all Birkbeck students to use for their assignments.

What is Turnitin Draft Coach?

This online writing tool will help you improve your assignments before you submit them and it's free for Birkbeck students.

Draft Coach is always available: Need help with your assignment on a Sunday afternoon? Draft Coach is there for you. No need to wait for a tutor's schedule.
Instant feedback: See where you can improve your writing within seconds.
Develops your writing skills: Turnitin Draft Coach explains any errors and helps you improve your writing.
Improves academic referencing: If you have cited a source in your text, but forgotten to include the reference in your bibliography or reference section, Turnitin Draft Coach will flag it.
Checks for plagiarism: Turnitin Draft Coach will flag if your text matches to other sources, so you can avoid plagiarism (3 checks per document). Please note that it will not check for AI-generated text (e.g. text you've copied from ChatGPT etc) but this will be checked when you submit your assignment for marking.

There are many AI-powered writing tools available on the web, but only Turnitin Draft Coach is approved for use by Birkbeck students.

Turnitin Draft Coach sits within Office 365, available from your web browser. Once you have it installed, it is very easy to use.
