Campaigns

Unison works closely with the other unions at Birkbeck, as we know that a number of issues cross all staff groups. The campaigns we have launched or are planning to launch include:

• Insourcing our outsourced staff: We are working with Unite, UCU and the Students' Union on a campaign to bring our outsourced staff (cleaners, caterers, night security, etc) in-house. This has already been done successfully at SOAS and the LSE. Read the letter that was sent to the Master to kick off the campaign.
• Bullying: We are planning to work with the other unions and the college to tackle bullying in the workplace. We want to ensure that the college complies with the Birkbeck Principles of Dignity at Work and Study.
• Joint Union Working Group: As part of this group, comprising Unison, UCU and Unite, we will negotiate with the college in a bid to introduce transparent and equality-driven procedures for senior management recruitment and key terms and conditions.
